The Chasdei Chaim Gemach and Services started soon after Rabbi Chaim Yachnes Z”L was Niftar. It was an obvious response to the void that he left. This organization hopefully fills that void to be here for all who need it, as he was there for all who needed him. He was a Rabbi in Flatbush since 1958 and was also involved in Hashgacha. His unique quality was the warmth that he exuded to all who met him. You felt very comfortable in his presense, and people who remember him always have good memories to share. Besides for his dedication to his Shul and work, he did not take lightly the Chessed opportunities that came his way. From Hachnassas Orchim to Harbotzas Torah, he was available to help inmany ways. It was important to Flatbush to build on such a strong Torah foundation. Baruch Hashem, we now can continue in his Zchus to spread all of that goodness that he taught and use the services of Chasdei Chaim to help the people that Rabbi Yachnes Z”L would have wanted to help. The Gemach is also dedicated to the memory of Reb Chaim Gelb Z”L Reb Chaim Gelb was a one man Chessed organization. He not only distributed a lot of Tzedakah, he also did it in a way that would not embarrass the recipient. One story I was told about the way he did this was once when someone who took a loan from him came to tell him that not only could he not repay the loan but that he needs additional funds. When Reb Chaim saw him enter his house he realized. From the mans expression that something was wrong so he told him to come into the back room to help him with something. Reb Chaim asked the man to do him a big favor and help him relieve the weight of all the money in his pockets weighing him down. He than gave the man the money he needed and at the same time making it seem that he was doing Reb Chaim a favor. Chessed we know is a Mitzvah from the heart, and Reb Chaim Gelb had a big heart. The Chasdei Chaim Gemach will now also be a Zechus for his Neshama, Chaim ben Yosef. Please help this organization reflect at least in a small way what he dedicated his life for by enabling us to continue his Chessed work. May we merit to reach out to the bet of our abilities.
